Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use Explore Scilly, whatever device or technology you use. Last updated 2 October 2026.
Explore Scilly is a guide to the Isles of Scilly for visitors and islanders. We want the site to be as easy to use as possible for everyone, including people with visual, hearing, motor or cognitive impairments.
Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. These guidelines explain how to make websites easier to use for disabled people, and they are the standard used across the UK.
What we have done
When building the site we have tried to make sure you can:
- zoom in up to 400% without text spilling off the screen
- move around the site using just a keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are
- use the site with a screen reader, with labelled menus, buttons and live information such as boat times and tides
- turn off animations, as the site respects the reduced motion setting on your device
- read text with good contrast against its background
- use the site on a phone, tablet or computer
We also write in plain English wherever we can and add descriptions to our photos.
Known issues
We know some parts of the site are not yet fully accessible:
- some photos, especially in island galleries, may not yet have a full description
- our newsletter and contact forms are provided by Formaloo, and we cannot fully control how they work with assistive technology
- island maps are images, so the same places are also listed in text on each island page
- timetables, tickets and booking pages on other websites, such as ferry, flight and accommodation providers, are outside our control
We are working to fix these issues. If something you need is hard to use, please tell us and we will help you get the information another way.
Feedback and contact
If you have any problems using the site, or need information in a different format, please email us at hello@ojetech.com. Tell us the page you were on and what went wrong, and we will get back to you within five working days.
How we test the site
We check new pages as we build them, using keyboard only navigation, screen reader testing and automated tools. The site has not yet been independently audited. This statement was prepared on 2 October 2026 and we will review it regularly as the site grows.
