When the weather wins

Fog and flying

Why flights wait

Skybus flies small planes that need to see the runway, so fog or low cloud at Land's End or St Mary's holds them on the ground until it lifts. On a foggy morning flights often go later in the day.

What the airports report

Our Fog and flying panel shows the latest reports from both airports and whether fog has lifted, updated through the day.

If your flight is cancelled

Take the next flight with a free seat, rebook, take a refund, or in season move to the Scillonian if it has room.

Questions

Skybus, answered

Where does Skybus fly from?

Land's End airport all year, Exeter from spring to autumn, and Newquay, where flights are paused until 16 March 2027. Every flight lands at St Mary's.

How long is the Skybus flight?

About 20 minutes from Land's End, 30 minutes from Newquay and an hour from Exeter.

Does Skybus fly on Sundays?

No. Skybus flies Monday to Saturday, all year round from Land's End.

Why are Skybus flights delayed?

Fog and low cloud. The planes are small and need to see the runway, so on a foggy morning flights are held until it lifts. The Fog and flying panel on Scilly Live shows what the airports are reporting.

What happens if my Skybus flight is cancelled?

You can move to the next flight with a free seat, rebook for another day or take a refund, and in season you may be offered a place on the Scillonian if it has room, with transport to Penzance quay. Seats go in order of the cancelled flights, then booking order.

How much luggage can I take on Skybus?

Two bags with 15kg in total per person, plus one small bag up to 3kg. Soft bags pack best. Extra weight is charged per kilo when there is space, so arrange it ahead.

Can I take my dog on Skybus?

Yes, on Land's End flights, in a crate on board. Space is limited, so book early.

Can I fly to the Isles of Scilly from London?

Not directly. The quickest way from London is the train to Exeter, about two and a half hours from Paddington, and a Skybus flight from Exeter airport in the flying season. All year, take the train to Penzance, about five hours, then fly from Land's End or take the helicopter from Penzance Heliport.

How do I get to Land's End airport?

A Skybus transfer bus runs from Penzance railway station to the airport, timed to the flights; book it at least a day ahead. There is parking at the airport.
